Continuing Education Credits are Available

Any course material and course link to the event will be emailed approximately 1-2 hours prior to the event to join.

The link will allow you to join from your computer, laptop, or smartphone. You’ll also have access to a chat feature where you can ask questions directly to the instructor. A replay of the webinar will be available for a limited time after the live session.

**To receive CE credits you MUST attend the live webinar AND sign-in at the beginning of the webinar AND at the end in the side bar as well as provide your RE License #. 

You will be e-mailed your CE Credits within 7 days from end of webinar. CE credits will be issued by ROA-SWO.

Protect yourself, your properties, and your tenants with proven strategies that keep you compliant and out of legal trouble. This course provides practical guidance for private landlords and property managers on real-world challenges and how to handle them professionally and legally.

Course Description:
This course provides practical guidance to help private landlords and property managers avoid legal pitfalls, tenant disputes, and compliance issues. Topics include:

  • Setting appropriate lease terms

  • Charging and handling screening fees in compliance with regulations

  • Showing the property, processing applications, and issuing approvals or denials

  • Using deposits to hold units and managing utility transfers

  • Acting on knowledge of tenant breaches

  • Establishing policies that prevent liability and maintain consistency

  • Responding to maintenance requests and special tenant accommodations

  • Professional landlord conduct and communication

  • Creating and enforcing nondiscriminatory property rules

  • Adding or removing tenants from existing agreements

  • Effective communication strategies

  • Strong documentation practices

  • Use of security cameras

  • Conflict resolution and dispute handling

  • Negotiating and documenting performance agreements

  • Record-keeping requirements and tenant privacy rights

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop and apply clear, objective policies and procedures

  • Avoid accidental waiver of rights

  • Handle unusual or complex tenant requests appropriately
